Magic Mushrooms

What Are The Healing Benefits Of Magic Mushrooms?

These days, psilocybin mushrooms have gained great popularity for recreational and spiritual purposes. According to the reports of users, magic mushrooms consumed in tiny doses tend to develop creativity, fight anxiety, increase concentration and energy. At the same time, multiple studies focus on investigating psilocybin as a treatment for various mental health conditions. The approach called psilocybin therapy plays a significant role in such cases. Today, we`ll try to find out whether healing with magic mushrooms is possible at all.

Healing benefits of magic mushrooms

1. Pain management

There is not much evidence that magic mushrooms and physical healing work for chronic pain, even though some studies conclude that psilocybin has the potential to treat pain associated with cancer, phantom limb pain, and cluster headache.

For instance, one study demonstrated that participants who took psilocybin felt the significant therapeutic effects for migraine healing compared to those who consumed a placebo. The authors of this study suggest a reduction of migraine is possible just after a single administration of this chemical. Another study that researchers plan to conduct at the University of California will be related to the healing benefits of psilocybin for low back pain.

2. Addictions

Magic mushrooms and the healing trip are associated with the potential of psilocybin to treat different addictions. A pilot study at Johns Hopkins University demonstrated that active compounds in shrooms worked well for fighting smoking addiction during one year of observation. Moreover, scientists connect the power of psilocybin with fighting cocaine and alcohol addictions. Research in Alabama was related to the effectiveness of psilocybin therapy for cocaine addiction, while another study investigated whether psilocybin can be effective for heavy drinking.

3. Depression

Psychological healing is an integral part of the potential benefits of magic mushrooms, and this concerns depression, too. The FDA talks about psilocybin therapy as a real breakthrough in treating depressive states. Moreover, some studies found that chemical psilocybin can even fight treatment-resistant depression in patients.

4. Anxiety

A trial at Johns Hopkins University in 2016 concluded that a single dose of psilocybin tends to reduce anxiety and depression states in people with cancer diagnoses. Such evidence can significantly influence the overall approach for treating such conditions in cancer patients.

5. PTSD

Magic mushrooms were also investigated as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. One study has shown that patients who took psilocybin report improvements in their depression states. This trial incorporated 89 participants who consumed determined doses of psychedelics in the controlled environment.

Since there is a lack of current treatment options for patients with PTSD and TRD (treatment-resistant depression) psilocybin therapy has the potential to become a promising approach. The upcoming trials are yet to come, so there is a possibility that the therapeutic and healing benefits of psilocybin will be officially approved.
